How an AI-assisted design process helped bring a bold, cocoa-forward cake to life at Gas Works Park

A Fast Timeline and a Clear Vision

Olivia and Julio planned their wedding as an elopement-style celebration at Gas Works Park, which meant the timeline was tight and decisions needed to be made quickly. From the start, Olivia was clear about what mattered most. She knew she was particular about food, and she wanted a cake that felt intentional, bold, and grounded in real ingredients.

Having worked with Foodz before, she came in with trust in the team and confidence that the execution would meet her expectations. My role was to take her ideas and ensure they translated cleanly from concept to final cake, without losing detail along the way.

Translating Ideas into One Cohesive Design

Rather than arriving with a single reference image, Olivia shared a cluster of visual ideas, textures, and flavors she was drawn to. The cake needed to feel dark, organic, and sculptural without relying on artificial color or overly decorative elements.

The final design became a two-tier cake finished in black icing made from dark cocoa, not food coloring. Pressed flowers and fresh fruit — fig, blackberry, and pomegranate — were layered into the exterior so the cake felt natural and expressive, not styled for effect.

Inside, each tier alternated between red velvet and dark cocoa cake, built with four layers per tier and filled with a blackberry pomegranate compote. Flavor was treated with the same level of intention as the exterior design.

Using AI to Create Design Clarity

One of the most helpful parts of this process was Olivia’s use of AI-generated inspiration images. By pairing those visuals with specific keyword descriptors, she was able to communicate exactly what she was envisioning without relying on guesswork or interpretation.

That clarity made a real difference, especially with a short timeline. It allowed me to understand the direction immediately and focus on execution rather than revision, ensuring the final cake stayed aligned with her original vision.

AI-Generated Inspiration

From the Client

“The wedding was more of an elopement, planned on short notice. I can be pretty picky when it comes to food, so after discussing with my fiancé it was obvious we would choose Artful Layerz . Having worked with FDZ Hospitality previously, I knew the quality of the cake would be top tier, and the sales team worked hard and fast to make it happen.”

The Final Cake at Gas Works Park

Set against the open landscape and industrial backdrop of Gas Works Park, the finished cake reflected both the inspirational imagery and the ingredients themselves. Dark cocoa, fresh fruit, and layered florals came together in a way that felt bold without feeling heavy.

For me, success on a project like this means the couple doesn’t have to worry about the details. They can trust the process and stay present on their wedding day, knowing the vision they shared has been fully carried through.
